Claire was born into a family with strong motorsport links – her father Terry ran the Howells Garages Austin Rover Rally Team in the 1970s and 80s. Although her early years were spent riding horses, a move into rallying was inevitable.

She was voted the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ by her local motor club after her first year in grass-roots motorsport and has gone on to become the only female driver to win the Ladies Titles in both the Welsh Speed and Welsh Tarmac Rally Championships.

In 2004, using a Mitsubishi Evo7, she won Group N4 in the UK based Rallysport Challenge and was selected in 2005 as part of the Wales Rally GB team to promote the British round of the World Rally Championship. The last few years have been all about saving funds – and competing on selected asphalt events in a home-built Subaru Impreza. Plans for 2012 will be confirmed very shortly, thanks to a lovely new set of sponsors!
